Conor McGregor’s Absence from UFC
Since July 2021, Conor McGregor has not been seen in action in the UFC, having been defeated by Dustin Poirier via a TKO due to a broken leg. Despite this, the former champ-champ has remained in the public eye, with controversies involving USADA and new sexual assault allegations.
Mental Struggles During Inactivity
Featherweight Champion Alexander Volkanovksi recently spoke out about his difficulties with mental health during McGregor’s absence, saying: “I never thought I’d struggle with it, but for some reason, when I wasn’t fighting or in camp, I’d just do my head in. I needed to fight, and this opportunity came up. To be honest, I wasn’t training as much as I should have, but I had to do it. I had to take (the fight).”
Conclusion
As Conor McGregor prepares for his long-awaited return, other fighters have opened up about their struggles during his absence. Despite not training as much as he should have, Alexander Volkanovksi was able to take the opportunity to fight, as he needed to in order to maintain his mental health.
