On February 29, a unique picture book named Kocchi wo Miteru (Look This Way) by renowned writers S shichi Tonari and renowned horror manga creator Junji Ito will be released by Japanese publisher Iwasaki Shoten. This book is a part of the Ghost Story Picture Book series by Iwasaki Shoten.

In Iwasaki Shoten’s 2018 Ghost Story Picture Book Contest, S Shichi Tonari won the coveted grand prize. The winning entry is published as part of the Ghost Story Book series, along with drawings created by a professional artist. Notably, Kocchi wo Miteru’s graphics are being provided by the master of horror, Junji Ito, who confirmed this on February 15. Masao Higashi, a Japanese literary critic and one of the contest judges, has painstakingly edited the book.

The story of faces that are missed by everyone but one is told by Kocchi wo Miteru. These faces appear in windows, clouds, trees, and other unexpected locations. But one face starts to concentrate just on one person, whether they are in the park, at home, or at school. This gripping story investigates the unsettling idea of a face fixed on just one person.

Junji Ito’s literary writings have frequently served as the basis for live-action and anime adaptations, and his critically praised manga has been published by Viz Media. In addition, on January 19, Junji Ito Maniac: Japanese Tales of the Macabre, a brand-new animation based on 20 different Ito stories, debuted globally on Netflix. Furthermore, a new four-episode anime mini-series that will debut on Toonami is based on Ito’s Uzumaki manga.

In January 2018, the 12-episode previous television anime series Junji Ito Collection began. It adapts stories from the It Junji Kessaku-sh collection and Fragments of Horror. The show could be watched on Crunchyroll with subtitles in English and Funimation with an English dub. On its second and third DVD sets, there was also a version of Ito’s Tomie narrative.

Barakamon might be appealing to you if you like S shichi Tonari s Kocchi wo Miteru for its endearing slice-of-life aspects and touching character interactions. This anime has a similar tone and centers on a gifted artist who ends up in a small town, where he develops personally and has humorous interactions with the locals. Fans of S shichi Tonari’s Kocchi wa Miteru will find that both series have a beautiful blend of humor and real human connections, making Barakamona an excellent pick.
