The UFC’s preparations for the year have not gone as planned, with some highly anticipated and scheduled fights being postponed. Headliners on Fight Night haven’t been completely spared from the injury plague, even if it’s mostly affected PPV cards. Most notably, a bantamweight match between emerging contender Song Yadong and former champion Petr Yan is scheduled for the promotion’s return to Shanghai on December 9.

The fight was in such an early planning stage that, until Yadong announced its cancellation in early October, fans were unaware of its existence. The boxer disclosed Petr Yan’s injury in a social media post. Currently speaking with Sean [Shelby]. attempting to determine possibilities.

UFC books Chris Gutierrez vs. Song Yadong

It seemed like the bantamweight class was completely booked when the initial bout cancellation was revealed. But it didn’t take long for a closer look at the UFC rankings to reveal that there would probably be very few fighters available to headline a match by the end of the year.

Given all the choices available at the time, it was likely that Pedro Munhoz would win the fight, but both Chris Gutierrez and Jonathan Martinez had to be taken seriously as legitimate contenders after their recent strong performances, with Martinez emerging virtually undamaged.

It therefore comes as no surprise to learn that Gutierrez is the one receiving the call. El Guapo, who recently defeated Alateng Heili via overwhelming decision at UFC Fight Night: Yusuff vs. Barboza, is presently holding steady at number 14 in the promotion’s official rankings. That circumstance wasn’t enough to get him out of the preliminary round the previous time, and the 32-year-old made it clear that he wasn’t happy about being left out after winning.

You know, you put me on the preliminary round, and I hate to admit that. When asked what he wants to see in his next battle, Gutierrez responded. I’m in the top fifteen; I worked hard to get there. I’m hoping to get on the main card for the next one.

The fight booking was initially reported on X/Twitter by MagicM_MMABets.Since then, MMA Fighting has announced that Song vs. Gutierrez will be the main event of UFC Shanghai.Song Yadong, who is ranked #7 and is still only 25 years old, will face Gutierrez having defeated Ricky Simon via TKO in the fifth round back in April of this year. The talented fighter from Team Alpha Male, who lost to Cory Sandhagen last year for the second time in his career, needed the fight as a much-needed pick-me win.

Song Yadong robbed

Song Yadong made headlines a few months ago for a far more surprising reason. The UFC fighter said on Instagram that he was stopped at a petrol station on his way home from San Francisco to Sacramento and was robbed at gunpoint by four men wearing ski masks. The men seemed to be waiting for unsuspecting onlookers.

Dear Friends.

I want to share with you a recent experience that I never thought I would encounter. Last Wednesday at dawn, at a gas station, my friend and I were robbed by four masked individuals. They were armed, and we were in a perilous situation. They took all the valuables we had on us. Fortunately, we are safe.

Even though I am a professional fighter, I chose to surrender. Because I knew that facing their guns, my fists couldn t compete, I couldn t be faster than a bullet. At that moment, I felt a sense of helplessness I had never felt before.

In a short interview following the incident, Song disclosed that his companion had been robbed of his wallet, cash, ring, and necklace in addition to being pistol-whipped during the encounter. Song claims that he surrendered over his cell phone, wallet, and jewelry. The gas station employee reportedly declined to notify the police, and the company manager asserted that the robbery’s video had already been removed.
