Tom Aspinall reveals injury ahead of title win at UFC 295

On Saturday at UFC 295, Tom Aspinall emerged victorious in the UFC interim heavyweight championship, against all odds against him. Aspinall announced that he will be sharing the Octagon with the most intimidating opponent in the division without a training camp before to his sudden battle against Sergei Pavlovich. Most people figured that was because it was short notice, but Aspinall had entered with little to no training for another reason.

The Englishman told UFC color commentator Laura Sanko right away following his first-round victory over Pavlovich that he had to cancel his training camp due to a back injury he had sustained a few days prior to taking the fight.

Aspinall stated in an interview with Sanko, “I actually pulled my back and didn’t really train at all.” Thus, I hurt it during the first week after learning about the altercation. For the past week and a half, I haven’t been able to train. There was no training camp for me. I was in training camp for roughly five days. I was without a visa. I didn’t know if I would make it here. The past two weeks were the most chaotic ever. It was all simply going so badly.

Aspinall shook off pre-fight doubts at UFC 295

Before one of the most significant fights of his UFC career, Tom Aspinall provided some advice on how to handle a back injury during his post-fight press conference.

[This is foolish]. When asked about pre-fight doubts, Aspinall replied, “That was exactly my thoughts when I was sitting in the locker room tonight.” I wondered what I was doing. Honestly, though, I receive this rather frequently. I don’t mean to sound philosophical, but there are far too many people who run from fear in both this game and in life in general. They make an effort to project an air of invincibility.

Aspinall went on, “I’m going to do it anyway, even though I freely admit that I’m scared.” I perform at my best there. Watch when Sergei gave me a right overhand blow. The mouthpiece began to slide out. That’s when I perform at my best. when a large, menacing man approaches me in that manner. That’s when I perform at my highest level. I welcome terror wholeheartedly. I’m content to act afraid in that way.

Tom Aspinall shuts down Ciryl Gane for next fight

For his next battle, Tom Aspinall has a few choices to think about after he heals from his back injury. Of course, there is the unification versus Jon Jones, but Bones vs. Spike Miocic is rescheduling, according to UFC CEO Dana White.

Candidates like Ciryl Gane and Jailton Almeida are other choices, but the recently minted UFC interim heavyweight champion has already eliminated one of them. Aspinall criticized Gane after the latter’s victory over Serghei Spivak at UFC Paris in September of last year. He was shut down by Bon Gamin, but he just changed his mind.

Tom, congratulations. I am the hunter, and you are the one being sought now that you are the champion. See you shortly. tweeted Gane following this past Saturday’s UFC 295 on X (previously Twitter).

Aspinall gave Gane his due when he heard that callout.

Well, that’s intriguing, Aspinall remarked. He traveled to France after I simply called him out, and he declined the fight. I believe he ought to battle Almeda. I believe that the boys ought to fight each other first and observe what transpires.
