An exciting new development is the launch of Manga Planet India, an English-language online manga reading service specifically designed for Indian users by FANTASISTA, INC. and Dai Nippon Printing Co., Ltd (DNP). Manga Planet India, a Manga Planet subsidiary, debuted on November 15, 2023. It provides a monthly membership plan called Manga Planet.in Pass, which costs 99 INR (about 1.2 USD), in addition to the ability to buy titles digitally with Points.

Manga Planet India has carefully chosen a lineup of internationally recognized Kodansha Ltd. titles, including as Attack on Titan, Chihayafuru, Tokyo Revengers, and The Quintessential Quintuplets, in recognition of the significance of cultural sensitivity. The goal of this strategy is to satisfy the wide range of tastes and inclinations of the Indian audience.

Manga Planet India’s partnership with the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA) is a key component of its strategy. Manga Planet India is actively interested in Manga Shakti, a study that aims to comprehend the distinct reading habits of Indian manga aficionados, in collaboration with Kodansha. The flawless alignment of the platform with the cultural backgrounds and expectations of its Indian audience is ensured by this joint effort.

The launch of Manga Planet India is the result of FANTASISTA and DNP’s intensive market research and interaction with the Indian manga fan community. The Manga Planet Facebook page was established in 2012, and the Manga Planet India page was established in 2015, marking the beginning of this endeavor. With a combined fan base of over 1.1 million, these pages have played a crucial role in connecting Manga Planet with its worldwide audience.

The progression persisted with the launch in 2019 of the online manga-reading platforms Manga Planet and futekiya, which would eventually unite to form Manga Planet in April 2023. Interviews and active attendance at events helped to develop stronger relationships with the Indian manga fan community. In order to establish a direct relationship with Indian manga aficionados, Manga Planet India sponsored the Manga Planet Cosplay Walk in 2018 in collaboration with the Consulate-General of Japan in Bengaluru.

Director Hirotsugu Takano says he is happy that the idea of making versions that are tailored for particular nations or areas has come to pass. He says, “We had always planned to launch with a global version of our service and then progressively develop localized versions for specific countries or regions.” We hope that this service will fulfill the needs of Indian readers. We are thrilled to be able to bring this notion to reality.

The platform will be present at two major events to commemorate Manga Planet India’s launch: Bengaluru Comic Con (November 17–19, 2023) and Delhi Comic Con (December 8–10). At these events, attendees can take advantage of special event-related freebies, browse Manga Planet India’s offers, and buy gift codes for the Manga Planet.in Pass.

Manga Planet India stands out as a promising new chapter in the wide and varied world of manga, offering gems from throughout the world of manga to Indian readers. The launch is evidence of Manga Planet’s commitment to building a global manga community and demonstrates a commitment to cultural understanding. Manga Planet India welcomes Indian manga fans to go on a voyage of exploration, creativity, and cultural celebration as they turn the pages.
